EUR 75 million of domestic funding for 24 projects to promote cooperation of enterprises and research organisations

Under the “Competitiveness and excellence cooperations” scheme financed from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund, 24 awarded proposals receive nearly HUF 24 billion (EUR 75 million) in funding. Projects to be implemented in the next 3 years include research of carbon fibre polymers, automated identification of tumour cells, and a number of new solutions involving 5G mobile technologies or the Internet of Things.

This call for proposals of the NRDI Office aims to encourage cooperation between enterprises and research organisations.

The ”Competitiveness and excellence cooperations” (2018-1.3.1-VKE) call aims to facilitate long-term and sustainable cooperation relationships of strategic importance between Hungarian businesses and research and knowledge-dissemination organisations to produce marketable scientific achievements which address industrial needs and can tackle highly important societal and economic challenges. Funding is disbursed by the NRDI Office from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund. Applicants had the chance to win domestic funding of HUF 500 to 1500 million (EUR 1.6 to 4.7 million) each. Consortia of up to 5 members were only eligible to apply. Altogether 48 project proposals were submitted with funding requests over HUF 45 billion (more than EUR 140 million). Awarded funding exceeds HUF 23.9 billion (EUR 75 million), the implementation period of the projects is 36 months.  

The winners include Hungarian enterprises which are among the global leaders of their field of operations. Awarded funding will fuel various projects such as the research of carbon fibre polymers, the automated identification of tumour cells and a number of new solutions involving 5G mobile technologies or the Internet of Things.

Besides funded projects, another six applications that met professional expectations will be furnished with an endorsing RDI policy opinion by the NRDI Office, which enables them to apply for funding under the “R&D competitiveness and excellence cooperations” (GINOP-2.2.1-18) call of the same purpose but financed from the EU Structural Funds.
