Through increasing resources and new calls announced to support research excellence and projects of researchers below the age of 40, the NRDI Office has delivered on its 2017 promise to renew the system of calls for discovery research proposals – announced József Pálinkás at the RDI Calls Forum on 25 January. Such events are regularly organised by the NRDI Office to improve the quality of research and innovation proposals by sharing assessment experiences.

Efficient science diplomacy can be pursued only on the basis of excellent scientific and R&D achievements – József Pálinkás said to Hungarian diplomats on 3 June, the opening day of a conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Budapest. Science and technology (S&T) attachés are responsible for the visibility of Hungarian RDI results and promoting the international networking of domestic stakeholders, in places of key importance for Hungary’s economic and cultural presence.

Diplomats responsible for Central Europe delegated by the foreign ministries of Asian countries were informed about the common, recently concluded or ongoing RDI funding programmes by the President of the NRDI Office. Projects in Asian countries are expected to benefit from a total budget of HUF 1 billion (EUR 3,3 million) on the basis of 2016 and 2017 funding decisions in relation to the programmes facilitating bilateral scientific and technological cooperation.

In connection to the EU initiative aimed at increasing the demand for innovative and sustainable building construction solutions and enhancing the successful participation of innovative SMEs in related public procurements, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office organised a professional forum in Szentendre, in the framework of its innovation services.

Addressed to managers of procurement on public construction, the NRDI Office organises a training session and an open forum on public procurement of innovative solutions in the sustainable building sector. The event that takes place on 28 September 2016 in the town of Szentendre, is part of the training activity within the European project PROBIS to promote bidding through innovative solutions aimed at increasing energy efficiency and sustainability of European public buildings.

Duan Jielong, new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Hungary, visited the National Research Development and Innovation Office on 12th August 2015, where he was received by President József Pálinkás. The liveliness of the Hungarian-Chinese professional relations is reflected by the fact, that this meeting took place within the first weeks of the Ambassador’s busy initiation program.

Ilham Aliyev, president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the National Innovation Office (NIO) of Hungary and the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

This spring the Start-up Spring event series was launched with the cooperation of the National Innovation Office (NIO), the Ministry for National Economy (NGM), the BudapestHub workgroup, and many domestic professional organisation and international partners. The Central European Startup competition was held on the 2nd of April 2014, with the aim of selecting the 10 best teams, who will get the opportunity to participate in the Central European Startup Awards Competition, where the teams will challenge themselves in new categories.
