The primary objective of the project is to create fusion neutrons using ultra-short laser pulses and to carry out a series of further experiments to increase the neutron yield. In addition, experimental and simulation studies to facilitate the transmutation of laser-generated neutrons in nuclear waste (spent fuel) (in particular transuranic elements such as Np, Am, Cm) and biomedical applications. The project is a national research priority of the Hungarian Government, and the University of Szeged (SZTE) has been asked to implement it. In order to support the successful implementation of the project, SZTE, Ecole Polytechnique and TAE (Irvine) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate.
