Artificial Intelligence - Horizon 2020 and beyond
21 June 2019
Modified: 02 August 2019
Reading time: 3 minute(s)
With the expansion of computing power, the advances in algorithms, and the explosion of data, artificial intelligence is promising a multitude of novel opportunities for research, industry and society alike. Europe possesses significant strengths in this area, including research excellence, vibrant industrial sectors, transnational ecosystems for cooperation, and a reputation for promoting responsible research and innovation.

In order to leverage the opportunities offered by AI, the European Commission has outlined its strategy on Artificial Intelligence for Europe, and worked together Member States to build a Coordinated Action Plan.

These plans foresee an EC investment of 1.5 B € in AI in 2018-20 scaled up to 20 B € per year combined public & private investment beyond 2020. This event aims to give an overview of the European AI strategy, upcoming funding opportunities in the last year of Horizon 2020, and an insight into the platforms & ecosystems that are being built across the EU.
