The 25th edition of the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) will take place in Prague Incheba Expo. For a quarter of a century, the contest has been bringing together the brightest young minds in European science highlighting the importance of innovation and research for future generations. This year, 85 projects from 37 countries and the European Union schools will compete.

This year's competition comprises 126 talented science students, aged between 14 and 21, who will compete to be acclaimed the best young European scientists of 2013. They will present their projects, covering a wide range of scientific fields, to a prestigious International scientific jury, the national and international press and the general public in the hope of winning not only a prize but also the recognition from their peers.

Prague’s edition will not only offer the contestants the possibility to meet and compete with the best of their contemporaries at European and international level but also to participate in a range of exciting activities organised for them in the Czech capital. They will visit the historic city centre and seat of the Czech government. They will also visit and participate in activities and exhibitions brought to the contest by top scientific companies and research institutions, as part of an interactive exhibition zone that will also be open to the public throughout the contest. They will be treated to several special events to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Contest, and will attend lectures by eminent scientific personalities.

Background of the EUCYS

EUCYS is an initiative of the European Commission, aimed at boosting interest in the sciences and creating dynamism among young science students to foster their talents and encourage them to follow careers in science and technology. In order to qualify for this prestigious contest, students must have won a first prize in their national science competitions. This annual event is an opportunity to showcase students’ best scientific achievements.
