The RDI calls encourage the implementation of ambitious and promising RDI project plans and programmes, the alignment of applicants’ objectives with institutional strategic development directions, and the preparation of sound budget plans for the effective and sustainable use of RDI resources.

Researchers, excellence-based research

Support for discovery research

  • funding promising basic research projects initiated by researchers with an aim to get a better understanding of natural and social phenomena, potentially resulting in the development of new methods and/or procedures
  • strengthening scientific excellence workshops through a scheme of incentives for post-doctoral researchers
  • scholarships for university researchers, ensuring the training of a new generation of researchers, providing support for doctoral students
  • encouraging the domestic scientific research community to participate in the international scientific community
  • support for higher education and doctoral studies

Infrastructure development

Provision of modern tools and equipment

  • strengthening the research and development capacity of state-operated domestic knowledge bases of strategic importance
  • development of research infrastructures with a view to building networks, supplementing regional research opportunities and leveraging existing infrastructures
  • Funding for using the research and measurement opportunities offered by research infrastructures

Corporate RDI

Encouraging large companies and SMEs to pursue their research and development objectives

  • the development of new marketable products, services and technologies with intellectual added value (by obtaining industrial property protection)
  • support for RDI projects focusing on social and economic benefits in the spirit of renewal
  • setting up start-up incubators, supporting start-ups and spin-offs
  • application of financial instruments

International cooperation

Funding for international networking, international research and innovation projects of Hungarian researchers and organisations

  • joining co-financed international cooperation programmes
  • facilitating consortium building activities

Knowledge transfer

Promoting the commercialisation of scientific results

  • cooperation to solve complex multi-disciplinary tasks of strategic importance
  • providing a research background for industrial developments based on real market demands, implementing joint programmes in cooperation with excellent research institutions in the respective fields
  • development of domestic research infrastructure and RDI capacities in the form of industry-university cooperation to create competitive products and services
