The aim of the Call funded from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund is to support the launch of new international bilateral scientific and technological (hereinafter: S&T) cooperation projects or the deepening of existing cooperation projects by supporting researcher mobility activities and the exchange of experts.

The Science Patronage Programme (MEC_26) announced by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) as the managing body, aims to foster the internationalisation of the Hungarian scientific research community, support science communication and promote open science in Hungary through three dedicated sub-programmes:

The call, funded from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund, aims to provide support for international collaborative projects led by Hungarian higher education institutions that seek innovative solutions to challenges relevant and topical for the Hungarian and international community, in line with the focus areas of the John von Neumann Programme (NJP).

The objective of the call for proposals to be financed from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund is to strengthen the professional, operational and business capacities of Hungarian Technology Transfer Companies (TTCs). The Call contributes to a more efficient economic and societal utilisation of research results generated by higher education institutions and research institutes, to the professionalisation of technology transfer processes, and to the establishment of sustainable TTC operations generating market revenues.

The objective of the call to be financed from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund: Pursuant the Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/2506 of 15 December 2022, no legal commitment may be entered into under the Horizon Europe Programme, the Erasmus+ Programme, or other EU-funded RDI-relevant and educational programmes under direct or indirect management, with a public interest asset management foundation or with a legal entity maintained by a public interest asset management foundation. Therefore, the Government undertakes to provide Hungarian higher education institutions maintained by public interest asset management foundations established under Act IX of 2021 (hereinafter: “model-changed higher education institutions”), as well as other legal entities with the opportunity to participate as consortium partners in the implementation of projects awarded under the Horizon Europe research and innovation framework programme, the Erasmus+ Programme and other RDI-relevant or educational programmes directly or indirectly funded by the EU, by providing Hungarian funding (guarantee) to substitute their funding from the European calls. Applications under this Call may be submitted for the purpose of securing domestic funding to substituting for the EU funding specified in the relevant EU call, taking into account the funding intensity specified therein.

The scholarship programme aim to support the training of the next generations of Hungarian researchers and creative artists, helping them to start and stay on a research and artistic career, and to support the work of outstanding young researchers and artists.

The purpose of the HIGHLIGHT subprogram is to support domestic research groups with constant excellent achievements in the international community of science that already secured substantial competitive funding for their operation, typically having been built up through a single large-scale scheme, and whose excellent achievements can be sustained through this call, inter alia by enabling the provision of researcher succession necessary for the group’s operation.

The objectives of the call for proposals announced under the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund are to support the incubation of clinical technological, procedural, care-coordination and related inventions, solutions, marketable best practices and ideas that go beyond traditional patient care in hospitals and other healthcare institutions and service providers. In cooperation with hospitals and other healthcare service providers, incubators are tasked with advancing solutions to the prototype stage or to market entry, as well as to the point of securing the substantial additional capital investment required to reach the scale-up phase. The ultimate objectives include improving the standard, efficiency and quality of healthcare services, thereby increasing patient satisfaction, to which solutions optimising hospital and other care delivery operations and processes also contribute.

The purpose of the international cooperation subprograms (ANN_26, SNN_26) is to stimulate cooperation between domestic and international collaboration partners, thus strengthening the international embeddedness of Hungarian science.

The purpose of the ADVANCED subprogram is to support experienced and excellent researchers with an independent research group and outstanding publication activity, being internationally acknowledged experts in their scientific field; the basic research project implements a timely, novel, and relevant research plan and significantly develops the research team, including the strengthening of research capacity through the integration of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

The purpose of the STARTING subprogram is to support outstanding early-career researchers with postdoctoral experience in acquiring independent project leadership experience as they move into the next stage of their research careers. This will enable them to build their own research groups around promising research topics, while also involving early-stage researchers working towards a PhD degree in the research.

The purpose of the EXCELLENCE subprogram is to provide an opportunity to develop successful participation in the funding programs launched by the European Research Council (ERC) for researchers who have demonstrated their standing with a high-quality proposal submitted in an earlier ERC call.^[1]
