Increasing innovation performance, which the Government is also encouraging through the PIACI KFI scheme, has a major role to play in re-launching the economy and strengthening Hungary’s competitiveness. In the new round of the extremely popular funding scheme, HUF 35 billion in funding is available from today, announced Tamás Schanda. The Deputy Minister of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology added that by taking advantage of this opportunity, businesses and the research and knowledge dissemination organisations working with them can develop new products, services and technologies that are ready for export.

The new call is again aimed at companies that are committed to creating market value and even involve experts from domestic research institutions to create new marketable products and services. This year’s call allocates an additional HUF 35 billion through two sub-programmes to ensure that all worthwhile projects receive non-reimbursable grant wherever possible.

Tamás Schanda also pointed out: “The national civic government considers it vital that no viable innovation that can be put to good practical use is wasted because the originator of the idea does not have the resources to implement it. In the last two years, this scheme has been one of the most important innovation calls with the largest budget, even with increasing R&D spending. Due to the increased interest, we have so far made a total of more than HUF 167 billion of funding available to innovative companies.”

Within the PIACI KFI call, two sub-programmes are launched: sub-programme ‘A’ is open to individual or group applications from companies up to HUF 500 million, while sub-programme 1B’ is open to applications from research institutions in collaboration with companies up to HUF 800 million.

The two-step application process will make it easier for those interested. In the first step, it is enough to submit a simpler material, namely the project’s technical programme and the related financial plan for a pre-qualifying opinion. The electronic submission platform will open on 27 September 2021 on the website of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office. More detailed information is available on the NKFIH website.
