The Cooperative Doctoral Programme (CDP), which supports young Hungarian researchers, is being expanded with a sub-programme on defence research and development. The one billion forint call aims to increase the number of highly skilled workers with scientific knowledge in the national strategic sector.

The Cooperative Doctoral Programme (CDP) launched under the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund is a special scholarship programme to support talented young Hungarians to start their careers, tailored to the needs of industry and service sectors. This year, the initiative will be expanded with a billion forint National Defence Sub-Programme (CDP-NDS).

CDP-NDS is open to doctoral students outside higher education who are carrying out such research on national defence issues that can be put into practice. The fellowship programme provides targeted support for scientific careers and the next generation of researchers in the national strategic sector.

The doctoral students participating in the subprogramme will do their doctoral research at the doctoral school but in collaboration with the business sector. CDP-NDS offers a net monthly grant of HUF 400,000 to help researchers build their careers. In addition to the doctoral student, support is also provided to the host and supporting doctoral school, the supervisor and the expert involved in the implementation.

The programme adds a new element to the range of government measures aimed at re-launching the economy and creating high value-added jobs. The initiative will channel talented young researchers towards the defence industry, a world leader in innovation.

The programme is implemented with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and managed by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office. For details of CDP-NDS 2021, see National Research, Development and Innovation Office for more information.
