The 31st Scientific and Innovation Talent Recruitment Contest for Youth announced

Budapest, Monday, 20 September 2021 (MTI) - The 31st Scientific and Innovation Talent Recruitment Contest for Youth was announced on Monday in Budapest.

Young people aged 14-19 can enter the contest with a stand-alone project until 25 November 2021, with the second round of the contest being open for detailed design until 1 April 2022.

At the announcement ceremony of the contest, Zoltán Maruzsa, state secretary for public education of the Ministry of Human Capacities (Emmi), stressed that the development of reflective thinking and creativity is an important goal of the education system.

He added that innovations can make the future Hungary more efficient and effective, and lay the foundations for people’s well-being and living conditions.

Zoltán Birkner, President of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office), pointed out that in the past three years, research, development and innovation funding in Hungary has multiplied.

He pointed out that the Office’s application system is multifaceted, supporting both becoming a researcher or an entrepreneur. All those interested are given the opportunity to join the scheme according to their circumstances.

Zsófia Rácz, deputy secretary of state for youth, said that the National Talent Programme will spend HUF 3.6 billion on talent education this year. Part of the funding comes from the central budget and part from the tax donated.

She added that more scholarships were being run and said it was important that young people seized every opportunity to develop their talents.

János Pakucs, chairman of the organising committee and honorary president of the Hungarian Association for Innovation, announced that five Hungarian young people reached the finals of the European youth scientists contest, which was held in the online space over the weekend, and three of them won special prizes.

The Hungarian Association for Innovation, together with the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and the Ministry of Human Capacities announced the 31st Scientific and Innovation Talent Recruitment Contest for Youth under the main sponsorship of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office.

According to this year’s call, young creatives may win a prize worth HUF 5 million and podium will worth 100 extra points at the 2022 university admissions. The most efficacious coaches and secondary schools will also win generous funding.
