According to the announcement, almost 4000 applications were received for this academic year’s calls, 56% of which were successful, so 2192 applications could be funded under the HUF 4 billion call. This is 17% more than in the previous year.

For the past seven years, the programme has been open to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, doctoral candidates, young academics and researchers, and has a special sub-programme for students just entering higher education. Depending on the scheme, the winning applicants will receive a net monthly grant of HUF 100 to 200 thousand for up to 12 months, while the host higher education institutions will receive a research and operating grant equivalent to 40% of the scholarship awarded to their applicants, according to the KIM announcement.

The statement quoted László György, Minister of State for Innovation and Higher Education of KIM, who underlined that the government’s goal is to make Hungary the knowledge centre of Central and Eastern Europe by 2030, and to encourage more young people to choose research careers, and to create world-class scientific results, new solutions, processes and innovations from their work, which will have significant economic and social benefits.
