Factories of the Future is a public-private partnership between the European Commission and the research and innovation community aiming at delivering the technologies needed for the new sustainable and competitive manufacturing in Europe. Factories of the Future initiative is implemented under Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. International Networking Day on Factories of the Future co-organized by National Center for Research and development (NCBR) and the National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the EC (KPK PB UE) aims to present the European and Polish research and innovation opportunities in the area of manufacturing, as well as to increase synergy between EU and national funds.

The European conference on digital and key enabling technologies skills aims to become an interactive platform for exchanging opinions and co-creating solutions on the skills issues in key enabling technologies (KETs) and ICT and to bring together the representatives of all key stakeholder groups. The conference is organised in the context of two initiatives of the European Commission, namely KETs skills and e-leadership initiatives.

The Commission organises a next session of the external user group for the Participant Portal on 27 May 2015, 14.00-17.00. Like the earlier meetings, this session will be broadcast over the Internet via a live stream and remote users can participate in the discussion via a Web forum.

The General Assembly of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC) will be held on 21 May in Berlin (Germany) at the Metropolitan Solutions Trade Fair 2015. The EIP-SCC is Europe's key initiative to create a common Market Place for Smart City solutions. In this context, the morning session will convene high-level speakers from city halls, leading companies and the European Commission to examine achievements of Smart Cities in Europe, actions to increase synergies between policies and funds to boost demand and good practice to create solutions that meet cities’ and citizens’ needs.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organizes every year the Telecom World Conference and for 2015 Hungary has been selected as host country. The event will take place in Budapest from 12 to 15 October.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) will hold Korea Eureka Day 2015 in Seoul, Korea for three days from 20 to 22 May. This event will focus on exploring the ways to enhance Korea-Europe technological collaboration and generate joint R&D projects among industry, academia and research organisations.

JRC is waiting for the application of experienced (at least 5 yrs.) researchers into its pool of applicants. The selection consists of an interview and an EPSO (European Personnel Selection Office) test. The EU Commission enters into a maximum 6 year contract with the successful applicants.

The European Commission has selected 94 SMEs from 19 countries to each receive a grant of up to €2.5 million (€5 million for health projects) to finance innovation activities and the development of their business plans. The companies will also be entitled to benefit from up to 12 days of business coaching.

293 SMEs from 30 countries have been selected in the latest round of under Phase 1 of the SME Instrument. For each project, the participants will receive €50,000 to finance feasibility studies. They can also request up to three days of business coaching. For this phase, the Commission received 2,363 proposals by the third cut-off date of Phase 1 on 17 December 2014. 320 received an evaluation score above the application threshold and 259 or 81% have been selected for funding.

The ‘INNOVEIT 2015 – The EIT Innovation Forum’ combines a set of activities which were organised as separate events in the past: the EIT Stakeholder Forum, the EIT Awards, the EIT Roundtables and the EIT Alumni Connect event. During three days, INNOVEIT 2015 will bring together 600 participants comprised of start-ups, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, higher education and research institutes, EU, national and regional policy makers, as well as over 100 entrepreneurial students and graduates.

DRIVER's project partners Pôle Risques and ARTTIC organise an international workshop on Innovation for Crisis Management (I4CM). This event aims at sharing best practices between crisis management professionals from all over Europe. The objective is to support innovation by highlighting technological development needs and experimentation benefits; and enlarge the DRIVER Community. The DRIVER Community includes crisis management practitioners, policy makers, technology suppliers and the citizenry and will enable an intensive collaboration with and between these crisis management stakeholders.
