Territorial Innovation Platform set up in Szeged

Nearly HUF 10 billion to promote fundamental research projects

Budapest, 22 November 2019, Friday (MTI) - More than 270 researchers and research groups have been granted nearly HUF 10 billion within the call for proposals in fundamental research invited by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) - said Tamás Schanda, Minister of State at the Ministry for Innovation and Technology on Friday.

Territorial innovation platform set up in Debrecen and Miskolc

Ministry for Innovation and Technology: Renewalof the innovation system is moving in the right direction

“The renewal of the innovation system is moving in the right direction: while Hungary spent only 1.35 percent of GDP on research and development (R&D) in 2017, last year’s total R&D spending was 1.53 percent of GDP (HUF 654 billion), and this ratio is expected to reach the target of 1.8 percent next year”, State Secretary József Bódis of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology said at a press conference in Budapest on Monday.

Territorial Innovation Platforms: new nationwide programme to boost the efficiency of territorial innovation ecosystems

A new nationwide series of events entitled “Territorial Innovation Platforms (TIP)” is launched in November by the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office, with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology, to take place in Budapest and five rural university sites. The programme aims to facilitate territorial partnerships across the country based on university knowledge bases with an aim to ensure direct access to information about innovation policy directions, enable and strengthen cooperation between local innovators, and create new professional foundations.

International water technology conference in Nagykanizsa

As world population grows rapidly, so does demand for water, presenting a global challenge for humanity. Water will soon become the most important natural resource in the world, which increases the importance of competitive water treatment and water purification technologies. The Soós Ernő Water Technology Research and Development Centre, an industry-leading Hungarian innovator, dedicated an international scientific conference to the topic for the sixth time, where talented students and young researchers were also awarded. The event was attended by Dr. Zoltán Birkner, President of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, one of the founders of the institution.

MAJOSZ automotive conference on the new Zalaegerszeg test track

Industry 4.0 and the latest issues of the automotive industry were at the focus of the 4:PONT:2 conference organised by the Association of Hungarian Vehicle Component Manufacturers (MAJOSZ) under the patronage of Dr. László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology on 24 September 2019. In the opening session of the professional event held at the conference centre of the ZalaZone Automotive Test Track, Dr. Zoltán Birkner, President of the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office also gave a speech, providing information about the first year of the renewed domestic RDI system and about future policy plans.

New Hungarian-developed IoT framework helps manufacturing companies to go digital

NETvisor Zrt, the Technical and Economic University of Budapest (BME) and CS-Process Mérnöki Kft have successfully closed a joint two-year R&D project with a total cost of HUF 835 million, of which HUF 635 million was provided by the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI )Office in funding. The new IoT framework developed by the industry–university consortium will enable manufacturing companies to quickly and cost-effectively transform or expand their activities through digitisation and Industry 4.0 solutions.

International smart specialisation cooperation workshop for the development of the food industry through Industry 4.0 and digitisation

Organised by Campden BRI Magyarország Nonprofit Kft, in collaboration with the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, supported by the DG REGIO of the European Commission, and in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Innoskart ICT Cluster, the workshop to be held in Budapest starting on 19 September 2019 focuses on Central European and interregional cooperation promoting smart specialisation in the food industry.

ELTE receives 1.7 billion for three research areas

Eötvös Loránd University has been awarded a HUF 1.7 billion grant in the Thematic Excellence Programme of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office – the President of the NRDI Office and the management of the University announced in a joint press conference. The grant can be spent on in-house research in the fields of synthetic chemistry and biochemistry, high-reliability IT solutions, and family and national community-development.

University of Debrecen wins HUF 2 billion for automotive, health and aerospace research and development

The University of Debrecen has been awarded HUF 2 billion in the Thematic Excellence Programme of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office for research and development in the automotive industry, a flagship industry in the region, for innovative aerospace research, and for research on insulin resistance which causes chronic diseases.

Record high number of scholarships awarded in the New National Excellence Programme,while applications twice exceeded available funds

Scholarships were awarded again this year to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, doctoral candidates, young academics and researchers in the New National Excellence Programme. The HUF 4 billion budget made it possible to award 13% more scholarships than last year for the upcoming academic year: altogether 2003 applicants received scholarships.

The call financed from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund supports long-term sustainable collaborative business-academic partnerships that boost Hungary’s competitiveness.
