European Commission awards €647 million in grants to 277 leading researchers

The EU's European Research Council (ERC) awarded its prestigious Advanced Grants to 277 senior researchers.

Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, said: "As part of Horizon 2020, the ERC funds the work of some of the most brilliant minds in frontier research, people whose discoveries can start new industries, new markets and contribute to the welfare of the planet." The projects that have received funding include work on next-generation quantum computers, psychiatric disorders, active ageing, and nanomaterials with magnetic properties.
