Ministry for Innovation and Technology: scholarships for young Hungarian researchers may double next year

Budapest, Tuesday, 8 June 2021 (MTI) - Young researchers may receive twice as much funding as at present from 2022 onwards, thanks to an initiative of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology to increase the Bolyai János Research Scholarship.

Territorial Innovation Platform set up at the University of Nyíregyháza

Hungarian Startup University Program: university project teams are implementing the most promising ideas

Budapest, 15 April 2021, Thursday (MTI) – Hungarian Startup University Program (HSUP) involving nearly 2100 students from 21 higher education institutions in its first year entered a new phase, Tamás Schanda, parliamentary state secretary, Ministry for Innovation and Technology announced on Thursday through a press release.

Hungarian Association for Innovation: world-class achievements with substantial benefits recognised at the Hungarian Innovation Grand Prix

Budapest, 21 March 2021, Monday (MTI) - The jury of the Hungarian Innovation Grand Prix selected the companies winning the 2020 Innovation Grand Prix, seven Innovation Prizes and the Startup Innovation Prize of the year out of 69 Hungarian companies, the Hungarian Association for Innovation informed the Hungarian press agency, MTI.

High-level launch event on the coming Horizon Europe programme

Horizon Europe, the new research and innovation framework programme is just about to kick off. On this occasion, the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office organise a high-level online launch event on 29 March 2021, with Mariya Gabriel EC Commissioner, Dr. László Palkovics, Minister for innovation and technology and Martin Kern, Director of the Budapest based European Institute of Innovation and Technology. At this event, the European framework programme, coming soon with an unprecedented budget of over EUR 95 billion, will be presented in a wider context.

This year’s OTKA calls attract enormous interest

Project proposals from researchers and research groups total four times the available OTKA funds of HUF 13 billion. Postdoc and young researcher schemes showed the most impressive gain in popularity: the total number of applicants have increased by one and half in three years. Over 50 basic research projects propose to address COVID-19 related challenges and mitigate their impact – József Bódis, state secretary for higher education, innovation and vocational training of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology announced.

Horizon Europe, the EU’s new seven-year research and innovation framework programme succeeding Horizon 2020, supports basic research, cluster programmes addressing societal challenges, and close-to-market innovations through calls for proposals and opportunities for international cooperation with an unprecedented EUR 95.5 billion budget in the upcoming period.

A circular economy science and innovation park to be set up in Nagykanizsa

MOL-PE Circular Economy Science Park Nonprofit Zrt founded by MOL and the University of Pannonia aims to build up the European innovation and research centre of circular economy relying on the knowledge base of the University of Pannonia and on MOL’s management and professional knowledge. Through the development project of nearly HUF 30 billion a world-class research and development infrastructure will be set up in Nagykanizsa and Veszprém.

Action plan to relaunch the economy: huge interest shown for higher education development funding

“38 higher education institutions submitted project proposals, requesting a total of HUF 2400 billion in funding, for the call for requesting opinions initiated by the Ministry for Innovation and Technology. With the construction investments and asset purchases to be made in the years to come, Hungarian higher education may see a development of historic proportions comparable only to those carried out by Klebelsberg.

Hungary is now on the startup world map

The Global Startup Ecosystem Report comparing 250 attractive startup locations worldwide included the Hungarian capital in its ranking for the first time. The authoritative report highlights as an important achievement that in the past years nearly HUF 27 billion has been received by local startups. With this, Budapest worked its way up to the lead pack of developing ecosystems in terms of financing. The report points out active state involvement and the available expertise as values to preserve.

The Hungarian Startup University Program (HSUP) is the first complex startup university training program in Hungary that introduces university students into the world of innovation and startup and provide them with modern, practice-oriented entrepreneurial education through a newly developed, standard national e-learning platform.

The call facilitating the planning is available to the institutions from today.

Horizon Europe on the horizon: a series of webinars helps Hungarian applicants get prepared

Horizon Europe, the framework programme of the European Union with an unprecedented EUR 95.5 billion budget, kicks off in April and will provide substantial funds for domestic research and innovation already this year. In order to increase the success rate of Hungarian businesses, knowledge centres, universities and research institutes, a new series of practice-oriented webinars is launched in February – József Bódis, state secretary for higher education, innovation and vocational training of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology announced.

New institutional collaboration to boost market access for businesses

New domestic call supports Hungarian participation in EIT KIC activities with HUF 500 million

The National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office provides HUF 500 million to enhance Hungarian participation in the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an EU organisation based in Budapest. EIT KICs bring together Europe’s major industrial, academic and research institutions to address societal challenges such as climate change, digital transformation, food production, health, energy, manufacturing, raw materials and urban mobility.

Second series of education events by Israeli experts for startups in the V4 countries

There was a real thirst for the online education series of the Startup Nation V4 Virtual Startups Bootcamp organised at the initiative of Israeli embassies in the V4 countries, sharing Israeli expertise and knowledge to support startups in Hungary, Czechia, Poland and Slovakia. After this success, second edition comes soon: this year’s programme kicks off 25 January 2021, joined by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office as a professional partner in Hungary.
