Under the Cooperative Doctoral Programme (full title from summer 2024: University Research Scholarship Programme - Cooperative Doctoral Programme) launched by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office), Scientia et Securitas, a journal jointly founded by the Scientific Council for Internal Affairs and the Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Students, has published and continues to publish thematic issues of the most outstanding students’ writings on security issues.
The NRDI Office announced the first Cooperative Doctoral Programme (KDP) in the academic year 2020/2021. The aim of the programme is to further increase the number of employees working in the RDI segment, primarily in the broader STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, agriculture, medicine, health and arts), who want to enrich their professional knowledge with the latest scientific research and are committed to the social and economic exploitation of their knowledge. To this end, the doctoral students participating in the programme will do their doctoral research at the doctoral school but in collaboration with the business sector. The KDP gained great popularity among students already in its first year, so the NRDI Office has launched it again in the academic years 2021/2022 and 2023/2024. In 2024, the system of research scholarships in higher education has transformed: the University Research Scholarship Programme (EKÖP) will now combine the advantages of the previous programmes with similar objectives – the New National Excellence Programme (ÚNKP) and the Cooperative Doctoral Programme (KDP) – into an integrated and renewed scheme. The EKÖP programmes are launched and assessed – along a uniform set of criteria – by the universities themselves. The Ministry for Culture and Innovation provides funding from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund to help institutions run the programme.
Scientia et Securitas is an open access interdisciplinary scientific journal, co-founded by the central scientific organisation of the Ministry of the Interior, the Scientific Council for Internal Affairs and the Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Students, and published by the publishing house Akadémiai Kiadó. The thematic issues on the Cooperative Doctoral Programme of the journal were produced in cooperation with the National Research, Development and Innovation Office and the Cooperative Doctoral Panel with the guest editorship of Prof. Dr. Péter Szendrő.
The first thematic issue on the Cooperative Doctoral Programme of the Scientia et Securitas journal was published in September 2022, the second in August 2024 and the third expected to be published in September 2024. In the journal, scholarship students with excellent qualification of the Cooperative Doctoral Programme publish about their research results, the practical applications, the implementation and the security implications of their research. The peer supporters involved in the research projects of students with KDP scholarship as supervisors and business experts, provide a short foreword to the published scientific articles, commenting on the significance of the research, the results obtained and the work performed by the given students.
In the second and third thematic issues, of the 51 students selected from among students with KDP scholarship with excellent qualification
- 33 students were proposed in KDP-2020
- 15 students in KDP-2021
- 3 students in NVKDP-2021’
with the external experts selecting the publications of further 34 scholarship students.
Due to the large number of publications, KDP publications will be released in two thematic issues, the first one is the recently published issue II and the forthcoming issue III.
