The evaluation of the National Research Infrastructure 2023-2024 survey has been completed

A total of 111 qualified research infrastructures are operating in Hungary. On 5 January 2024, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office launched the survey entitled ‘National Research Infrastructures 2023-2024’ with the aim of identifying those research infrastructures (RI) of outstanding importance in Hungary that were not ranked among the best in the 2021 survey round.
Following the evaluation carried out under the professional guidance of the National Research Infrastructure Committee (NKIB) and with the involvement of independent external experts, including the research infrastructures that received qualification in 2021, from 2024 a total of 111 domestic research infrastructures with qualifications (excellent RI/excellent RI network/promising RI/promising RI network) operate in Hungary.
Between 5 January and 18 March 2024, research institutions in Hungary applied with 119 new research infrastructures for qualification through the online platform. The submitted applications were evaluated based on the scientific fields of the European Strategic Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) classification (Energy, Environment, Health and Food, Physical Sciences and Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities, E-infrastructures), according to the following criteria:
- Uniqueness, scientific excellence, national strategic importance, domestic networking
- International cooperation and connections
- Open access and use
- Education and training of next generations
- Industrial innovation cooperation
As a result of the multi-stage evaluation process, the NKIB identified 31 new excellent RIs, 15 excellent RI networks and 11 emergingRIs, and also proposed the establishment of 2 emerging RI networks (partly through the integration of former RIs and by suggesting the networking of certain RIs). Following the decision, a total of 59 new qualifications were awarded. Together with the research infrastructures that obtained qualification in 2021, from 2024 a total of 111 domestic research infrastructures with qualifications (excellent RI/excellent RI network/emerging RI/emerging RI network) may operate in Hungary. The data of the research infrastructures that already received qualification in 2021 will be subject to monitoring, while retaining their qualification.
On the basis of the NKIB’s decision proposal, and with the approval of the Deputy State Secretary for Innovation of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, the following domestic research infrastructures received qualification:
