Call for Applicants for experts as members of the European Bioeconomy Panel
In its Communication "Innovating for Sustainable Growth: A Bioeconomy for Europe" (COM(2012) 60 final) published on 13 February 2012, the European Commission announced the establishment of a European Union Bioeconomy Panel. The aim of the Panel is to contribute to enhancing synergies and coherence between policies, initiatives and economic sectors related to the bioeconomy at EU level, linking with existing mechanisms.

Nominations for next ERC president now open
The independent search committee set up by the European Commission for the selection of the future President of the European Research Council (ERC) is consulting the scientific community on potential candidates. The ERC President will chair the ERC Scientific Council and will be the voice and public face of the ERC.

EU Rights Clinic
The EU Rights Clinic and hotline, run by ECAS and the University of Kent in Brussels, has been launched recently. The launch was intentionally timed to coincide with the official launch of the European Year of Citizens 2013 in order to symbolise and underscore the need to take a proactive attitude in tackling the gap between EU citizen’s rights in theory and in practice.

The National Innovation Office has signed a bilateral technology and innovation agreement with its Slovenian partner institution, the Slovenian Technology Agency (TIA) in Ljubljana – Press Release
26. November 2012. Budapest – Dr. György Mészáros, president of the National Innovation Office (NIH), as a member of a government delegation, lead by Mr. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with Dr. Mateja Mešl, director general of the Slovenian Technology Agency (TIA – a public agency for tachnology).

Cooperation agreement signed between the National Innovation Office and the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality
Dr. György Mészáros, President of the National Innovation Office (NIH) received the four-member delegation of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM) at his Office on November 19. The Shanghai delegation visited Hungarian partner institutions following similar dicussions in Germany. Beyond the deepening of existing Hungarian-Shanghainese science and technology (S&T) relations, the aim of the current visit was to ink an inter-institutinal memorandum of understanding with the NIH.

Innovative Start-Ups Conference Celebrating Hungary’s 20 Years in EUREKA
The National Innovation Office in cooperation with the Ministry for National Economy organised a successful conference for innovative start-ups entitled “20 years of Hungary within EUREKA” in Budapest, on November 15, 2012. Hungarians in CERN: from discovery research to cutting-edge datacentre
Hungary joined the European Organisation for Nuclear Research 20 years ago. Commemorating this anniversary, MTA's President József Pálinkás and CERN's Director General Rolf-Dieter Heuer celebrated the fruitful cooperation between the two parties at the construction site of the Wigner Datacentre to be accomplished by the beginning of 2013 in cooperation with MTA and the international organisation based in Geneva.

Hungarian-Tunisian Joint Economic Committee meeting - 7th November 2012.
On behalf of the National Innovation Office (NIH), senior counsellor Zoltán Fodor participated on the second meeting of the Hungarian-Tunisian Joint Economic Committee organised in Budapest on 7th November 2012. Mr. Alaya Bettaieb, state secretary of the ministry for foreign investment and cooperation of the Republic of Tunisia led the Tunisian delegation. On behalf of the Tunisian Industry and Innovation Development Agency (APII), Mrs. Lami Ghazouani, deputy director of the Tunisian Ministry of Industry participated at the meeting.

Professor Agnieszka Zalewska Elected President of CERN Council
Geneva, 20 September 2012. CERN Council today elected Professor Agnieszka Zalewska as its 21st President for a period of one year renewable twice, with a mandate starting on 1 January 2013. Professor Zalewska takes over from Michel Spiro who comes to the conclusion of his three-year term at the end of December.

CERN experiments observe particle consistent with long-sought Higgs boson
Geneva, 4 July 2012. At a seminar held at CERN today as a curtain raiser to the year’s major particle physics conference, ICHEP2012 in Melbourne, the ATLAS and CMS experiments presented their latest preliminary results in the search for the long sought Higgs particle. Both experiments observe a new particle in the mass region around 125-126 GeV.
