The EU Rights Clinic and hotline, run by ECAS and the University of Kent in Brussels, has been launched recently. The launch was intentionally timed to coincide with the official launch of the European Year of Citizens 2013 in order to symbolise and underscore the need to take a proactive attitude in tackling the gap between EU citizen’s rights in theory and in practice.
The clinic will collect evidence about problematic cases, particularly in the areas of:
- Barriers to the free movement of young job seekers or students.
- Entry and Residence in the EU.
- Social Security across Borders.
Citizens throughout the EU will be able to call the hotline (+32 (2) 548 04 94) or write an e-mail (rightsclinic@ecas.org), fill in the on-line form or Skype (rights.clinic01; rights.clinic02; rights.clinic03) in order to share their personal stories, seek help and thus contribute to improvements in European policy and legislation.
The service will be free of charge as it is in its experimental phase. At first it will be available in English, French, Italian and Dutch. Other languages will be added gradually.
