Reopened S&T call supports researcher mobility with HUF 200 million in 2020
The HUF 200 million programme for international research partnerships is open again: it provides funding from the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Fund to increase the mobility of participants and promote the exchange of experts, thus helping international bilateral science and technology (S&T) partnerships to launch new projects and further deepen cooperation.

Information on reopened customer service and restarted on-site inspections
As of 1 July 2020, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office restarted on-site inspections previously suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, as of 15 June 2020, personal administration at the customer service, and personal receipt and inspection of documents are available again.

Institutional research excellence programmes continue in new form - Over HUF 44 billion has been earmarked for the next two years
The former institutional excellence programmes will be integrated into the new Thematic Excellence Programme 2020 (TKP2020), financed from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund with HUF 44.3 billion over the next two-year period – Tamás Schanda, deputy minister of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology announced. The purpose of the new funding system remains the same: to support the professional work of university knowledge centres and research centres in a simplified form, with a focus on research, development and innovation.

HUF 53 billion for job protection and boosting innovation in the business sector
Four new innovation calls will open soon with a total budget of HUF 53 billion, financed from the NRDI Fund – Dr. László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology announced in Zalaegerszeg. The calls provide funding to create and protect jobs and improve the research, development and innovation potential and activities of businesses, in particular SMEs.

New ÚNKP scholarships cover all stages of research careers
This year’s New National Excellence Programme (ÚNKP) calls for applications are now open: the HUF 4 billion budget is available to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, postdoctors, and young teachers and researchers until 30 June 2020. As a novelty, a separate call is dedicated to talented doctoral candidates and postdoctors to ensure that all stages of research careers are supported. This year applications can only be submitted electronically. The calls and related documents are available on the ÚNKP website at www.unkp.gov.hu.

Institutional excellence programmes will continue in 2020
In 2020 the Excellence Programme for Higher Education Institutions (FIKP) and the Thematic Excellence Programme (TKP) will be integrated into a single programme called Thematic Excellence Programme 2020 (TKP2020), financed from the NRDI Fund. The main objective remains the same: to create a funding system for more effective and rewarding professional work in higher education institutions and research institutes by focusing RDI activities in these institutions.

The NRDI Office introduces flexible disbursement rules for advances, simpler administration and a new RDI Hotline channel to support all stakeholders of the domestic innovation ecosystem
Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, applicants, evaluators and financing institutions of pub-licly funded R&D and innovation projects are all facing new challenges. Territorial Innovation Platform established at Szent István University
The Territorial Innovation Platforms (TIP) initiative was launched in October last year by the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office, with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology. So far, the charter document has been signed by 11 universities in Budapest and six more in rural Hungary, and today Szent István University also established its TIP.
