Secretary of state of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology: five years of support for promising research from the “Frontline Programme”

Budapest, 30 June 30, 2021 Wednesday (MTI) – This year, eight projects have been granted funding under the Frontline – Research Excellence Programme, one of which aims to produce artificial materials with revolutionary new properties, Tamás Schanda announced.

NRDI Office supports all stages of scientific careers

The National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) supports all stages of scientific careers, from promising young researchers to internationally experienced researchers, through its targeted fellowship programmes and thematic calls. Among the proposals, the New National Excellence Programme (NNEP), with an annual budget of 4 billion HUF, specifically supports the next generation of researchers, while Frontline – Research Excellence Programme is for the best: from a budget of HUF 3 billion for 5 years, up to HUF 300 million can be awarded to internationally competitive research projects in Hungary.

This year’s Jedlik Ányos Awards presented

This year, the Jedlik Ányos Award was presented to researchers, doctors and professionals with outstanding performance in the protection of intellectual property, who fought against the coronavirus epidemic at a ceremony held in Budapest on Tuesday. The special prize of the Innovation Award of the Hungarian Association for Innovation was also presented at the event, which this year was awarded to the managing director of Hagyó Kft.

Ministry for Innovation and Technology: half a thousand businesses encouraged to innovate by a call worth HUF 8 billion

Ministry for Innovation and Technology: scholarships for young Hungarian researchers may double next year

Hungarian Startup University Program: university project teams are implementing the most promising ideas

Hungarian Association for Innovation: world-class achievements with substantial benefits recognised at the Hungarian Innovation Grand Prix

High-level launch event on the coming Horizon Europe programme

Horizon Europe, the new research and innovation framework programme is just about to kick off. On this occasion, the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office organise a high-level online launch event on 29 March 2021, with Mariya Gabriel EC Commissioner, Dr. László Palkovics, Minister for innovation and technology and Martin Kern, Director of the Budapest based European Institute of Innovation and Technology. At this event, the European framework programme, coming soon with an unprecedented budget of over EUR 95 billion, will be presented in a wider context.

This year’s OTKA calls attract enormous interest

Project proposals from researchers and research groups total four times the available OTKA funds of HUF 13 billion. Postdoc and young researcher schemes showed the most impressive gain in popularity: the total number of applicants have increased by one and half in three years. Over 50 basic research projects propose to address COVID-19 related challenges and mitigate their impact – József Bódis, state secretary for higher education, innovation and vocational training of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology announced.

Horizon Europe, the EU’s new seven-year research and innovation framework programme succeeding Horizon 2020, supports basic research, cluster programmes addressing societal challenges, and close-to-market innovations through calls for proposals and opportunities for international cooperation with an unprecedented EUR 95.5 billion budget in the upcoming period.

A circular economy science and innovation park to be set up in Nagykanizsa

MOL-PE Circular Economy Science Park Nonprofit Zrt founded by MOL and the University of Pannonia aims to build up the European innovation and research centre of circular economy relying on the knowledge base of the University of Pannonia and on MOL’s management and professional knowledge. Through the development project of nearly HUF 30 billion a world-class research and development infrastructure will be set up in Nagykanizsa and Veszprém.

Action plan to relaunch the economy: huge interest shown for higher education development funding

“38 higher education institutions submitted project proposals, requesting a total of HUF 2400 billion in funding, for the call for requesting opinions initiated by the Ministry for Innovation and Technology. With the construction investments and asset purchases to be made in the years to come, Hungarian higher education may see a development of historic proportions comparable only to those carried out by Klebelsberg.

Hungary is now on the startup world map

The Global Startup Ecosystem Report comparing 250 attractive startup locations worldwide included the Hungarian capital in its ranking for the first time. The authoritative report highlights as an important achievement that in the past years nearly HUF 27 billion has been received by local startups. With this, Budapest worked its way up to the lead pack of developing ecosystems in terms of financing. The report points out active state involvement and the available expertise as values to preserve.

Horizon Europe on the horizon: a series of webinars helps Hungarian applicants get prepared

Horizon Europe, the framework programme of the European Union with an unprecedented EUR 95.5 billion budget, kicks off in April and will provide substantial funds for domestic research and innovation already this year. In order to increase the success rate of Hungarian businesses, knowledge centres, universities and research institutes, a new series of practice-oriented webinars is launched in February – József Bódis, state secretary for higher education, innovation and vocational training of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology announced.
