Nearly HUF 3.5 billion to support researcher recruitment in the new academic year
Nearly HUF 3.5 billion can be awarded to around 2,000 winners in the 2023 calls of the New National Excellence Programme (ÚNKP). Since 2016, the programme has provided altogether HUF 26 billion in grant funding to around 13,000 students and young researchers to achieve their goals.

Correct interpretation of the European Commission’s information message sent to Horizon project coordinators via the Funding and Tenders Portal
On 13 April, the European Commission sent an automatic notification to coordinators of ongoing projects under the Horizon research and innovation framework programme via its Funding and Tenders Portal, warning consortia that the Council Decision that excludes entities maintained by Hungarian public interest trusts from EU funding could affect the implementation of already ongoing projects.

This year’s OTKA call has been published: HUF 13.5 billion to support Hungarian research
This year, the OTKA programme will continue to support the implementation of research projects, the achievement of outstanding scientific results and the development of new methods and procedures. European Commission confirms that model-shifting universities can continue to apply for Horizon Europe funding
In the view of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation and the NRDI Office, the Council Decision does not prohibit the submission of proposals by universities maintained by public interest trusts established under Hungarian Act IX of 2021/ universities concerned by the Council Decision, only the signature of agreements with them, and we continue to recommend and support their application to Horizon Europe.

Superbacteria in cancer therapy
On 8 December, at the invitation of Dr. István Szabó, Vice President of the NRDI Office, eight members of the nine-member team from the Eötvös Loránd University Faculty of Natural Sciences (ELTE TTK), which won gold at the iGEM competition in Paris at the end of October, visited our office. Tripartite Agreement on Professional Support for Innovation
The leaders of Corvinus University of Budapest, the University of Pannonia and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office signed an agreement on 18 October at Corvinus University in Budapest to promote innovation management in Hungary. As part of the cooperation, they established the National Innovation Conference, which is to be developed into an international event and will be held alternately at the two signatory universities every year.
