The calls for the academic year 2022/2023 are open to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, postdoctors, and young teachers and researchers. The six categories of grants available cover all stages of a researcher’ early career. Applications can only be submitted electronically, with a deadline of 2 June 2022 for most schemes. The detailed calls are available on the official NNEP website.

Depending on the category, winners will receive net HUF 100-200 thousand per month in grant for a period of 5 to 12 months. And the parent institutions will receive research and operating grants of up to 40% of the grants awarded to their own applicants.

“The number of researchers in Hungary has doubled since 2010, showing the highest increase in Europe. The main aim of the programme, which is being implemented for the seventh time with the professional support of ITM, is to strengthen the scientific and creative performance of universities by supporting individual excellence and encouraging the development of a new generation of research, development and innovation professionals” said József Bódis.

István Szabó, Vice President of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office in charge of the programme added: “NNEP supports early-career researchers to achieve their goals, encourages excellent teachers and researchers at the most productive stage of their careers to stay in the field, and also supports their parent institution."
