The Hungarian delegation was headed by Dr István SZABÓ, Vice President for Science and International Affairs of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, while the Japanese delegation was led by Her Excellency Ms. Misako KAJI, Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The Japanese delegation included senior representatives from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) and the RIKEN Research Institute.
The participants exchanged information on key strategic areas and recent developments in R&D institutions, and on international scientific cooperation between their countries. They reviewed the current cooperation programmes and shared their views on the different opportunities for and forms of cooperation. Two of our national laboratories were presented as possible new areas for future cooperation, one in the field of medical sciences and one in the field of autonomous systems.
Following the consultation, the Japanese delegation visited the laboratories of the Institute of Experimental Medicine, as a possible area for future cooperation, to exchange views on the latest medical research and possible collaborations. On the day following the S&T Consultation, the delegation visited the ELI-ALPS European-level laser-based research infrastructure in Szeged in the hope of future cooperation.
The two delegations agreed to continue the S&T Consultations and the Japanese Head of Delegation offered to organise it next time in Tokyo, the exact date and venue of which will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
