TECHINNOVATION 2013 is a premier industry-technology matching event organised by IPI that brings together international technology providers and Singapore industries to explore business collaborations. The theme of the event is mainstreaming the successful achievements of the iTEC project. The 20th session of the French-Hungarian Inter-governmental Joint Committee on Science & Technology (S&T) was held on June 17th 2013 in Paris with the kind cooperation of the Institut Curie. The visiting Hungarian delegation was composed of Dr. Ildikó Kovács, head of the Department for International Affairs and Mr. Zoltán Fodor, counsellor for International Affairs of the Hungarian National Innovation Office (NIO) together with Mrs. Szilvia Szántó, attaché for Science and Technology of the Hungarian Embassy in Paris.

Brussels/Geneva, 30 May 2013. At a special meeting hosted by the European Commission in Brussels today, the CERN Council¹ formally adopted an update to the European strategy for particle physics. Since the original European strategy was put in place in 2006, particle physics has made considerable progress in elucidating the laws of nature at the most fundamental level. CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has begun routine operation, producing its first major results, and the global particle physics landscape has evolved. The updated strategy takes these changes into account, charting a leading role for Europe in this increasingly globalised endeavour.

The Slovenian Embassy of Budapest, the National Innovation Office (NIO) and the Hungarian Investment and Trade Agency (HITA) jointly organised on the 29th of May 2013 in Budapest, the Slovenian-Hungarian Innovation Forum, where a little under twenty Slovenian and Hungarian companies participated. The events organised by the NIO and HITA with the foreign partner institutions give the opportunity for the companies and the regions to cooperate and build business relationships.

By making the software required to run a web server freely available, along with a basic browser and a library of code, the web was allowed to flourish.

Budapest, March 13, 2013 – Hungary’s policy of opening to the East seeks for a closer cooperation with the Arab world, including Kuwait with whom Hungary would like to establish a strong strategic partnership.

The Hungarian CERN Committee (HCC) held a meeting on the 13th of March 2013 with its new president, László Korányi. The HCC discussed and decided about the Hungarian standpoint which should be represented at next week’s CERN Financial Committee and Council meeting, listened to a presentation about the current situation of the CERN@Wigner project which is under construction at the Hungarian Academy of Science’s (MTA) Wigner Physics Research Centre, and came to an agreement on a CERN particle physics scholarship.

On behalf of the National Innovation Office (NIH), senior counsellor Zoltán Fodor participated at the bi-annual meeting of the Hungarian-Flemish Economic Joint Committee organised in Brussels on the 21th February 2013. Our Flemish partner during the discussions was Mr. Philip Van Avermaet, Head of Division for research of the Flemish Department of Economy Science and Innovation.

In its Communication "Innovating for Sustainable Growth: A Bioeconomy for Europe" (COM(2012) 60 final) published on 13 February 2012, the European Commission announced the establishment of a European Union Bioeconomy Panel. The aim of the Panel is to contribute to enhancing synergies and coherence between policies, initiatives and economic sectors related to the bioeconomy at EU level, linking with existing mechanisms.
