Brussels/Geneva, 30 May 2013. At a special meeting hosted by the European Commission in Brussels today, the CERN Council¹ formally adopted an update to the European strategy for particle physics. Since the original European strategy was put in place in 2006, particle physics has made considerable progress in elucidating the laws of nature at the most fundamental level. CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has begun routine operation, producing its first major results, and the global particle physics landscape has evolved. The updated strategy takes these changes into account, charting a leading role for Europe in this increasingly globalised endeavour.

The Slovenian Embassy of Budapest, the National Innovation Office (NIO) and the Hungarian Investment and Trade Agency (HITA) jointly organised on the 29th of May 2013 in Budapest, the Slovenian-Hungarian Innovation Forum, where a little under twenty Slovenian and Hungarian companies participated. The events organised by the NIO and HITA with the foreign partner institutions give the opportunity for the companies and the regions to cooperate and build business relationships.

Twenty years ago CERN published a statement that made the World Wide Web ('W3', or simply 'the web') technology available on a royalty free basis. Budapest, March 13, 2013 – Hungary’s policy of opening to the East seeks for a closer cooperation with the Arab world, including Kuwait with whom Hungary would like to establish a strong strategic partnership.

The Hungarian CERN Committee (HCC) held a meeting on the 13th of March 2013 with its new president, László Korányi. The HCC discussed and decided about the Hungarian standpoint which should be represented at next week’s CERN Financial Committee and Council meeting, listened to a presentation about the current situation of the CERN@Wigner project which is under construction at the Hungarian Academy of Science’s (MTA) Wigner Physics Research Centre, and came to an agreement on a CERN particle physics scholarship.

On behalf of the National Innovation Office (NIH), senior counsellor Zoltán Fodor participated at the bi-annual meeting of the Hungarian-Flemish Economic Joint Committee organised in Brussels on the 21th February 2013. Our Flemish partner during the discussions was Mr. Philip Van Avermaet, Head of Division for research of the Flemish Department of Economy Science and Innovation.

Ten Hungarian companies showed at the Hungarian Investment and Trade Agency's (HITA) national stand at Gulfood, the Middle East's leading food industry fair, in Dubai on February 25-28, HITA said on Friday.
