The Thematic Excellence Programme 2020 provides nearly HUF 43.9 billion to 27 scientific institutions (higher education institutions and public research institutes) for 92 thematic research projects from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund.
This year’s programme integrates the Programme for Higher Education Institutions 2018-2019 and the Thematic Excellence Programme 2019. This way, the new integrated funding scheme for the year 2020 was open to applicants that received funding under one of these previous programmes.
The 2020 programme supports the implementation of thematic research projects based on the professional excellence of higher education institutions and public research institutes in order to
- develop a product, technology or service with a significant scientific or technical novelty;
- make the resulting product, technology or service commercially viable;
- improve the system of research criteria;
- attract more young people to research careers;
- increase the international embeddedness of the Hungarian research community;
- strengthen the research, development and innovation focus;
- ensure the social, economic and environmental use of research results and provide support for related initiatives;
- facilitate partnering with other actors in the RDI segment;
- increase the commercial or social use of the product, technology or service resulting from the thematic research project.
