Prototype development and commercialization show up ahead

This new call intends to drive commercialization of research results by providing predictable funding to SMEs for the development of technologies with high intellectual value. The call focuses on two development phases that are difficult to be financed from the market, specifically in-house prototype development by SMEs and the commercialization of the resulting innovative products, services and technologies. In addition, the funding will also help improve the competitiveness of SMEs while accelerating their innovation efforts.

Startups Getting in the Ring
A boxing ring was set up in the aula of the Corvinus University of Budapest in the evening of November 26, 2015 to serve as an arena for eight selected startups to compete their ideas in pairs in the Hungarian final of the Get in the Ring global startup challenge. “I trust that these participants will soon be referred to as the members of the great Startup Generation, and the intense support from the fans here will help make it happen because community is the engine of an efficient startup ecosystem”, József Pálinkás, President of the NRDI Office said in his opening speech.

Front-rank researches: national funds to assist Hungarian researchers win European competitive funding
Hungary has been one of the most successful contestants of the Central & Eastern European region to win competitive funding from the European Research Council (ERC). However, due to lack of funds, the majority of Hungarian projects that were positively evaluated in the process of preliminary selection fail to win funding.

OECD Ministerial Meeting Focused on National Innovation Strategies
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) held a Ministerial-level meeting focused on science, technology and innovation in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, on 19–22 October 2015. The meeting, held in conjunction with the World Science and Technology Forum, was also the first of its kind since 2004.

Increasing researchers’ remuneration is a must, says Pálinkás
Funds to support research and development are abundant now, but there is a lack of ideas and human resources, said József Pálinkás, President of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office speaking on a programme aired by InfoRadio. Increasing the remuneration for those working in the research, academic, development and university sectors is a must, added Pálinkás, who formerly was the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS).

European Academies for science-based decisions in policymaking
Even the European Council is supplied with science-based advice by the European Academies Senior Advisory Board (EASAC), the leading body of which met in Strasbourg on 30-31 August 2015. A Statement from the Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council
The annual meeting of the Global Research Council, consisting of most of the world’s research funding organizations, was hosted by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the National Research Foundation South Africa in Tokyo on May 26–28, 2015. Presidents of research funding organizations of around sixty countries attended the meeting; Hungary was represented by József Pálinkás, president of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office in charge of the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund.

Hungarian-Korean Business Technology Forum
A successful Hungarian-Korean business technology forum was organised by the Hungarian National Research, Development and Innovation Office, the Hungarian National Trading House, The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency. The forum attracted the representatives of 20 Korean and 50 Hungarian enterprises. For them, the event provided an excellent opportunity for expanding the scope and potentialities of Hungarian-Korean R&D, innovation and business co-operation.
