The aim of the project is to strengthen the performance and competitiveness of stakeholders across the Hungarian innovation ecosystem, to support market access by providing targeted RDI services, and to stimulate technology transfer.
Background
The priority project is strategically linked to the National Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) 2021-2027, the National Strategy for Research, Development and Innovation 2021-2030 and at programme level to the implementation of GINOP Plus.
Strengthening the innovation performance of enterprises is a key element of this, and is the objective of several pillars of the priority project.
At present, business R&D expenditure is typically concentrated in the activities of large companies, while the innovation capacity of the SME sector is low by comparison. With the number and share of innovator enterprises at 45% of the EU average, Hungary’s innovation performance has been on an upward trend for years. This can be further stimulated by supporting innovation in SMEs.
Several activities of the priority project, such as project development, preparation for R&D qualification and technical support for implementation, provide targeted expert assistance to business R&D activities. In addition, the wide dissemination and dissemination of the results of RDI projects indirectly supports business activities in this area. These will enable micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to launch more R&D projects and achieve a higher rate of successful implementation. In this way, the same eligible activities planned in the priority project will indirectly contribute to the increase in the ratio of R&D expenditure to GDP in Hungary.
Strengthening links between firms and the research community is a key element in building the domestic RD ecosystem.
The priority project contributes to this directly and indirectly through several activities. Examples include project development services, professional support for the implementation of RDI projects, the provision of information services, the enhancement of regional innovation activity, and the assessment of public research infrastructures. The priority project also includes training on procedures for the protection of intellectual property.
Target groups
The direct target group of the project is the following - partially overlapping - segments of Hungarian enterprises open to innovation:
- Innovative enterprises: enterprises already innovating in their operations;
- Enterprises transitioning to innovation: enterprises that become innovative thanks to the implementation of the project; and
- Start-up or early-stage micro, small and medium-sized enterprises
The indirect target group of the priority project includes research institutions, other research organisations and innovation clusters. These organisations can play an important role as subcontractors, collaborators and coordinators in RDI projects designed and implemented by businesses.
