In academic year 2021/2022, through the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, the Ministry for Innovation and Technology launches an open call for applications under the New National Excellence Programme (hereinafter: ÚNKP) to be funded from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund for winning scholarships under “Research Scholarship Applications for Bachelor Students”, “Research Scholarship Applications for Masters Students”, “Research Scholarship for PhD Students”, “Power Up Science!” Research Scholarship Applications for Doctoral Candidates and Postdoctors and “Power up your Talent!” Research Scholarship for New Higher Education Students.

The ÚNKP supports the training of the next generations of Hungarian researchers and creative artists, helps them to start and stay on a research and artistic career, and provides research funding to internationally outstanding researchers and artists. The scholarship opportunities promote higher education and research excellence by supporting undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers and academics who perform effective research and creative activities at the higher education institution. The programme aims to foster scientific research and innovation taking researcher and creative excellence into consideration on all scientific and artistic areas.

Before the call deadline, a total of 4,285 applications were received by 24 host higher education institutions involved in the programme. Following the assessment of the applications by such institutions, scholarships were granted to 1,869 applicants with the approval of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology. A total of HUF 3,496,758,798 was granted in funds covering the scholarships and an operating and research funding corresponding to 40% of the total of scholarships granted to the winning applicants of host higher education institutions.
