Hungarian – Indian Strategic Research Fund - Press Release

On the 18th of January 2008 Ferenc Pártos, the president of the National Office for Research and Technology of Hungary (NORT) and Thirumalachari Ramasami the under-secretary of the Department of Science and Technology of India (DST) has signed a Letter of Intent to set up a strategic fund for R&D; 1-1 million EUR I year.
The Parties agreed that 50% of the Fund will be used for supporting Collaborative Projects in every scientific field. The other 50% of the Fund will be used to set up Research Programmes in three strategic areas:
- Biomedicine.
- Green Chemistry, including Catalysis;
- Optics and Electronics for Space Application;
The Research Programmes will be carried out by 3 networks of research institutes in both countries within the timeframe of 5 years. At the end of each year, beginning from the 2nd year, the programmes will be evaluated, and additional funding will be provided only for the well performing research networks.
The agreement is coordinated by NORT concerning the Hungarian issues and DST concerning the Indian issues.
