Dr. György Matolcsy, minister for national economy nominated Mr Sándor Erdő, PhD. for vice president of the National Innovation Office from 29. January, 2011.

Mr Sándor Erdő, PhD as vice president is responsible for the management of professional activity connected to the European Union and international cooperation in the fields of science, technology and innovation policy. Top priorities include activities concerning the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development and expanding of the European Research Area. Another priority is EUREKA  a European market oriented R&D cooperation. The vice president plays an active role in preparing and signing bilateral and multilateral intergovernmental science and technology agreements. He also provides professional direction of the activities in science and technology policy.

Mr Sándor Erdő graduated from Semmelweis University of Medicine (SOTE) in 1978, he earned his doctorate at the Faculty of Pharmacy of SOTE in 1980, and he acquired a Ph.D. in biological sciences in 1987. He has gained more than twenty years of professional experience in research and development management during his career so far. From 1998 until now he worked as the managing director of Erdő Pharma R&D Ltd. Mr. Erdő has several years of post-graduate teaching experience in Hungary and abroad, he is the author or co-author of ca. 100 scientific articles and the editor of two textbooks.
