The scheme provides funding to the Hungarian facility (ELI-ALPS) of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) included in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), which will cooperate with the other two ELI facilities in the Czech Republic (ELI Beamlines) and Romania (ELI-NP). Once completed, the ELI-ALPS large project will put Hungary – and Central and Eastern Europe – on the “ERA map”, i.e. the country will be part of the European Research Area so it can also help increase Europe’s role in the global R&D sector. The successful implementation of the project is of tremendous importance for the entire Hungarian research and development ecosystem.
