New National Excellence Programme 2023 – Funded institutions

The Ministry for Culture and Innovation, through the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, using the funds earmarked from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund, announced an open call for scholarship applications for the academic year 2023/2024 within the framework of the New National Excellence Programme (hereinafter: ÚNKP). The following scholarships are available: Scholarship for Bachelor Students, Research Scholarship for Masters Students, Research Scholarship for PhD Students, “Power Up Science!” Research Scholarship for Doctoral Candidates and Postdoctors, Bolyai+ Research Scholarship for Young Lecturers and Researchers, and “Power up your Talent!” Research Scholarship for New Higher Education Students.

The ÚNKP programme supports the training of the next generations of Hungarian researchers and creative artists, helping them to start and stay on a research and artistic career, and providing research funding to internationally outstanding researchers and artists. The scholarship calls promote higher education and research excellence by supporting undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers and academics who perform effective research and creative activities at the host higher education institution. The programme aims to foster scientific research and innovation on all scientific and artistic areas.

By the end of the application period, a total of 4387 applications had been received by the 25 host higher education institutions participating in the programme. As a result of the institutional assessment of the applications, 2249 applicants are awarded scholarship grants, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation. The total amount awarded is HUF 3,163,467,014, which includes scholarships as well as research and operating grants awarded to the host higher education institutions of the winning applicants, amounting to 20% of the scholarship.
