More than a hundred enterprises receive EUR 215 million to launch RDI projects with universities and research centres

Another 69 Hungarian R&D and innovation projects have won funding under the call of “R&D competitiveness and excellence cooperation programmes” within the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Programme (EDIOP/GINOP).

“Frontline” call kicks off – The competitive project funding system is now completed with a call promoting internationally competitive excellence in research

The “Frontline” excellence programme is open to researchers who belong to the forefront of international scientific life based on their achievements in the past ten years and who exert internationally renowned, outstanding scientific impact in their field of science. Surveys conducted by the NRDI Office show that presently approximately 120 to 150 researchers meet these requirements in the field of discovery research in Hungary.

New funding schemes for the international success of Hungarian researchers

New laser research facility in Szeged awaits researchers from all over the world

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán opened a cutting-edge laser research facility in Szeged, unique in the world enabling advanced research into the interaction between light and matter at a higher than ever intensity. The second implementation phase of the centre serving research in medical as well as material sciences was funded from a grant of over HUF 40 billion (EUR 130 million), 85% of which was provided from the EU's European Regional Development Fund. Total sum of the investment is HUF 80 billion (EUR 260 million).

Kick-off – two winning Hungarian excellence programmes launched

The molecular diagnostics of tumour, inflammatory diseases and cardiovascular diseases highly endemic in Hungary, and the development of production and logistics systems essential for industrial operation will be the core focus areas of the two new domestic excellence centres which are among the ten winners in the “Teaming” action, the most prestigious one in the Widening pillar of the Horizon 2020 framework programme.

New funding schemes and increased budgets to promote discovery research

Calls with increased budgets and with new funding schemes better tailored to researchers’ career stages have been announced by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office to promote discovery research in Hungary . The total budget of calls for project proposals in the field of fundamental research has increased to HUF 12 billion (EUR 39 million) this year.

Massive increase in the support disbursed to Hungarian research centres and undertakings from the research, development and innovation fund this year

The support of 276 million EUR (83 billion forints) in total was granted to research centres and undertakings submitting applications to the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund in 2016, a substantially larger amount than in the previous years.

Call for proposals to establish startup incubators in Central Hungary

The “Innovation Ecosystem” (ÖKO_16) call, which aims to strengthen the environment promoting the foundation, mentoring and training of startup businesses, is now open for applicants from the Central Hungary region with existing or newly planned business incubators.

József Pálinkás emphasized the potential of researchers’ excellence to enhance innovation at the University of Cambridge

London, 24 October 2016 – The President of NRDI Office delivered a public lecture on the RDI system in Hungary at the prestigious Clare College of the University of Cambridge. During his visit to London, meeting high ranking government officials and university leaders and in relation to the planned reform of research funding in the UK, Pálinkás also addresses the outcome of the integration of research funding in Hungary completed in 2015.

EU experts urge enhanced economic utilisation of the considerable domestic scientific and innovation potential and increase of public spending on RDI

The ongoing reform of the domestic research, development and innovation system is acknowledged by the independent experts who, in their recent report made upon the invitation of the EU, also pointed out: further real structural changes can bring benefits to the economy by exploiting Hungarian scientific excellence and the presence of innovative international companies and also by increasing public RDI expenditure in a sustainable way.

United Arab Emirates seek innovative cooperation with Hungary

More than 70 companies participated in the Hungarian-Korean Business Technology Forum - Press release

07-04-2015 Budapest, A successful Hungarian-Korean business technology forum was organised by the Hungarian National Research, Development and Innovation Office, the Hungarian National Trading House, The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency. The forum attracted the representatives of 20 Korean and 50 Hungarian enterprises. For them, the event provided an excellent opportunity for expanding the scope and potentialities of Hungarian-Korean R&D, innovation and business co-operation.

November 14th, 2013, Beijing – An exchange of experts for the People’s Republic of China agreement was signed on November 13th 2013 in Beijing between László Korányi, acting president of the National Innovation Office, and Jianguo Zhang, director general of the Chinese State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA), in the presence of Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations, government commissioner for Chinese-Hungarian trade relations and for Russo-Hungarian economic relations.

The international jury of NIH’s Call for Proposal ATI-2013 accredited incubators in the fields of ICT and Life Sciences

15 October, 2013, Budapest – The National Innovation Office (NIH), as the accreditation organization of the Call for Proposals for awarding the title of “Accredited Technological Incubator” (ATI-2013), has announced the winners of ATI-2013 (the Call was published in July) at the Award Ceremony on 15 October. According to the decision of the international Selection Committee (SC), this year’s awarded incubators come from the ICT and Life Science sectors.
