A new nationwide series of events entitled “Territorial Innovation Platforms (TIP)” is launched in November by the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office, with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology, to take place in Budapest and five rural university sites. The programme aims to facilitate territorial partnerships across the country based on university knowledge bases with an aim to ensure direct access to information about innovation policy directions, enable and strengthen cooperation between local innovators, and create new professional foundations.

The future performance and competitiveness of the new Hungarian innovation ecosystem largely depend on increased local cooperation between stakeholders, such as policy-makers, higher education and research institutions, businesses and professional organisations; which can boost the innovation potential of each region in line with the priorities of the Smart Specialisation Strategy. To this end, building on the existing university centres and focusing on the real strengths of key regional innovators, the NRDI Office intends to create new meeting points through the Territorial Innovation Platforms programme, which facilitates information flow, knowledge transfer, collaboration and networking from a new approach. The professional foundations of the programme are provided by the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. for Applied Research.

Dr. Zoltán Birkner, President of the NRDI Office pointed out: “The primary objective of—and a key driver in—reforming the innovation ecosystem is to increase the social and economic benefits of research, development and innovation, thus contributing to the country’s competitiveness and well-being of people living in Hungary. The TIP programme was also designed to make this happen.” He added: the expertise of knowledge bases across the country and the innovation capabilities should be exploited locally. It is, therefore, particularly important that universities build closer relationships with local small and medium-sized enterprises.

The series of nationwide events debuts in November and aims to address as many major regional innovators as possible, including in particular universities, research institutes, large companies, SMEs, startups, clusters, incubators, accelerators, business angels and national chamber networks.

The series will begin on 12 November 2019 at the University of Miskolc and is scheduled to end with a special closing event in Budapest. For programme details and registration please visit: www.nkfih.gov.hu/tip.
