New news portal and knowledge base to support successful Hungarian participation in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation

Budapest, 23 February 2022 – The Hungarian National Research, Development and Innovation Office has launched a new applicant portal to promote Hungarian partici-pation in the EUR 95.5 billion Horizon Europe programme. The official website in Hungarian provides comprehensive and up-to-date information, interpretative materi-al, news and events essential for successful applications, as well as expert services to help Hungarian organisations become even more successful in obtaining EU funding directly.

Cooperation agreement to make domestic innovation more competitive

Budapest, Thursday, 27 January 2022 (MTI) - The Secretariat of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH) and the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office signed a cooperation agreement to support more efficient, internationally competitive research, development and innovation activities in Budapest on Thursday.

2022 OTKA calls now open with more and more funding for individual exploratory research

Thematic proposal writing training for Hungarian participants in Horizon Europe

Budapest, 19 October 2021 - To promote successful Hungarian participation in the Horizon Europe programme, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office will or-ganise new free training sessions for proposal writers at the end of October and beginning of November.

The HCEMM research community has grown to nearly 100 members

Budapest, 6 August 2021 -Two more research groups have started their work in the Hungarian Centre of Excellence for Molecular Medicine (HCEMM), a translational medicine-focused research centre initiated by the Ministry for Innovation and Technology and established by a number of professional partners, which now has nearly 100 scientists working in 16 different fields of life sciences. Csaba Bödör, a molecular biologist who has just joined the HCEMM, specialises in genetic research on haematopoietic tumours, while Nikolett Wohner, senior research fellow focuses on the background of blood clot formation and haemophilia-related diseases.

Hungarian-Chinese call for proposals with a budget of HUF 200 million is open to promote joint research and development projects

The joint call for proposals of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) and its Chinese partner, the Ministry for Science and Technology (MOST) announced with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology is designed to promote research and development cooperation under a bilateral science and technology (S&T) agreement of a total budget of HUF 200 million. The call is open to project proposals until 12 February 2021. The focus areas are public health, physics and artificial intelligence.

New NRDI Fund scholarships support the next generation of market-oriented researchers

Over HUF 6 billion requested by nearly 400 SMEs in the first stage of the SME START INNOVATION call

More than HUF 6 billion was requested in total by 386 SMEs in the first stage of the SME START INNOVATION call opened in late May and closed on 19 June. In order to ensure continuous access to innovation funds for SMEs, the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office, with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology (ITM), opened the second stage of the call immediately after closing the first one.

Reopened S&T call supports researcher mobility with HUF 200 million in 2020

The HUF 200 million programme for international research partnerships is open again: it provides funding from the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Fund to increase the mobility of participants and promote the exchange of experts, thus helping international bilateral science and technology (S&T) partnerships to launch new projects and further deepen cooperation.

Institutional research excellence programmes continue in new form - Over HUF 44 billion has been earmarked for the next two years

The former institutional excellence programmes will be integrated into the new Thematic Excellence Programme 2020 (TKP2020), financed from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund with HUF 44.3 billion over the next two-year period – Tamás Schanda, deputy minister of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology announced. The purpose of the new funding system remains the same: to support the professional work of university knowledge centres and research centres in a simplified form, with a focus on research, development and innovation.

HUF 53 billion for job protection and boosting innovation in the business sector

Four new innovation calls will open soon with a total budget of HUF 53 billion, financed from the NRDI Fund – Dr. László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology announced in Zalaegerszeg. The calls provide funding to create and protect jobs and improve the research, development and innovation potential and activities of businesses, in particular SMEs.

New ÚNKP scholarships cover all stages of research careers

This year’s New National Excellence Programme (ÚNKP) calls for applications are now open: the HUF 4 billion budget is available to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, postdoctors, and young teachers and researchers until 30 June 2020. As a novelty, a separate call is dedicated to talented doctoral candidates and postdoctors to ensure that all stages of research careers are supported. This year applications can only be submitted electronically. The calls and related documents are available on the ÚNKP website at www.unkp.gov.hu.

The NRDI Office introduces flexible disbursement rules for advances, simpler administration and a new RDI Hotline channel to support all stakeholders of the domestic innovation ecosystem

Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, applicants, evaluators and financing institutions of pub-licly funded R&D and innovation projects are all facing new challenges. The NRDI Office comes up with eased rules for disbursement of advances to alleviate cash-flow difficulties of ongoing pro-jects and supports beneficiaries of funded proposals with simpler administrative procedures and prolonged submission deadlines.

Territorial Innovation Platform established at Szent István University

The Territorial Innovation Platforms (TIP) initiative was launched in October last year by the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office, with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology. So far, the charter document has been signed by 11 universities in Budapest and six more in rural Hungary, and today Szent István University also established its TIP.

Territorial Innovation Platform established at University of Pannonia

A nationwide series of events entitled “Territorial Innovation Platforms (TIP)” has been launched by the National Research, Development and Innovation (NRDI) Office, with the policy support of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology. So far, the charter document has been signed by 11 universities in Budapest and five more in rural Hungary. Today, the University of Pannonia (PE) also established its TIP.

Educatio trade show attracts wannabe researchers with a tame owl and an exciting vision

Just as last year, the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office) and the National Scientific Student Council (OTDT) participate at the Educatio trade show with own stands. This way they can provide aspirant students with first-hand information about the potential of a research career. The stands attract young visitors with exciting games, interactive challenges and prizes, and the lucky ones can even take a selfie with the official OTDT mascot, a tame owl.
