Bokor_JozsefElectrical engineer, university professor, from 2017 to 2020, he was the Vice President of The Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His research includes the theory and control of multivariable linear and nonlinear dynamic systems with applications.

He graduated in 1972 at the Electrical Engineering Faculty, Budapest University of Technology, specialized in automation. He obtained the doctoral degree from the same university in 1977 and the title “Doctor of Engineering Science” from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) in 1990. He was elected to Corresponding Member and Member of HAS in 1998 and 2001, respectively. He was member of the HAS Governing Board from 2014, and its Vice President of Natural Sciences from 2017 to 2020.

He was first research associate, later the Head of Department for Operations Research at the Institute for control an Information Technology at Csepel Works.

He joined the Systems and Control Research Group and became Head of Department at the Institute for Computer Science and Control (HAS SZTAKI) in 1987. He became deputy director in 1995 and later director for scientific activity in 2008. After the transformation of the institute in 2020, he became director for scientific activity for ELKH SZTAKI.

Since 1982, he held several teaching positions at the Budapest University of Technology, serving from 1992 as professor and from 1994 to 2013 as Head of Department for Control for Transportation and Vehicle Systems Department. He also teaches at the Széchenyi István University, in Győr, where he was also appointed to Head of Vehicle Industry Research Center.

He held visiting research positions at Imperial Collage of Science and Technology, London, UK, Delft University, NL, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MA, USA. He was also an adjunct research professor at the University of Minnesota, Aerospace Department, MN, USA, and participated in NASA, ONR and NSF research.

He is and used to be member of many scientific organizations, he is IEEE Life Fellow, IFAC Fellow and IFAC Council Member. He is also Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Óbuda and University of Timisoara.

Important awards: Széchenyi Prize, Middle Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, Simonyi Award, Donáth Bánki Award, Apáczai Award, Heliosz Award, Dénes Gábor Award.

His research results were applied in diagnostics and control of nuclear power plant facilities, and to solve various road and aerial vehicle control problems – he was the leader of several national and international researches in the field.
